Upgrading redmine from 1.0.5 to 1.1.1

I'd like to upgrade my installation, I'm following this tutorial

I'm stuck in this step

[infrid@web149 redmine-1.1.1]$ rake generate_generate_session_store
(in /home/infrid/webapps/redmine/redmine-1.1.1)
Missing the i18n 0.4.2 gem. Please `gem install -v=0.4.2 i18n`

[infrid@web149 redmine-1.1.1]$ gem install -v=0.4.2 i18n
WARNING:  Installing to ~/.gem since /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 and
          /usr/local/bin aren't both writable.
WARNING:  You don't have /home/infrid/.gem/ruby/1.8/bin in your PATH,

ERROR:  Error installing i18n:
        i18n requires RubyGems version >= 1.3.5

is this a big problem? thanks
