Has anyone tried installing Pimcore? Do you know if it is possible?

These are the requirements as stated on their web: http://www.pimcore.org/wiki/display/PIMCORE/System+Requirements

I've not tried but it is possible.

Our servers now have a PHP 5.3 application so you don't need the instructions below unless you want to run your own apache server for your app.

The only problems I see with it are that the minimum version of PHP required is PHP 5.3.0 and our servers run 5.2.11, so you would need to build a custom Apache + PHP stack compiled with the newer version of PHP.

We've created a script for this, here's what you need to do.

PHP 5.3

  1. Create a "Custom app listening on port" call it phpstack, note the port number you are assigned.
  2. SSH into the server into the new application directory (~/webapps/phpstack/)
  3. run: wget -O build_php_worker_531.sh 'http://wiki.webfaction.com/attachment/wiki/MiscellaneousFiles/build_php_worker_531.sh?format=raw'
  4. Check that the file is executable by running: chmod +x build_php_worker531.sh
  5. Run the script: ./build_php_worker531.sh . PORT_NUMBER
  6. Wait for it to finish building and read the instructions at the end. (This can take 1 to 2 hours to complete.)

If you run into any problems please submit a support ticket.

Is there a way to do this build procedure one time and then re-use that for different applications in my account, or do I need to re-run all of these steps for every single "webapp" directory?

Hi,

Our servers actually support PHP 5.3 now so you don't need to do any of those steps just go to the control panel and install a Static/CGI/PHP 5.3 application and you'll be good to go.

Sorry, this is getting off-topic, but I was directed here in response to another question about installing APC and making changes to httpd.conf settings. So I am not interested in the 5.3 part, but rather the fact that I'd have my own Apache/PHP installation that I can make httpd.conf changes to and be able to install opcode caching like APC.

Ah no worries, with this apache build you can serve multiple apps using VirtualHosts, there are notes in the config file that is generated, when the app is done building, that should get you started.
