The following steps will get you a basic MediaCore installation up and running:

  • Log into our control panel.
  • Create a new MySQL database and make a note of the database name and password. The rest of these instructions assume that the database name is 'wfuser_mc' and that the password is 'a1s2d3f4'.
  • Create a new 'custom app listening on port' application and make a note of the app name and port assignment. The rest of these instructions assume that the app is named 'mc' and that the assigned port is 32145.
  • Create a new website to serve the app you created in the prior step.
  • Log in to your server via SSH and run the following commands:
    cd ~/webapps/mc
    mkdir -p lib/python2.7 tmp
    export TMPDIR=$PWD/tmp
    PYTHONPATH=$PWD/lib/python2.7 easy_install-2.7 -s $PWD/bin -d $PWD/lib/python2.7 virtualenv
    ./bin/virtualenv mediacore_env
    source mediacore_env/bin/activate
    git clone git://github.com/mediacore/mediacore-community.git
    cd mediacore-community/
    python setup.py develop
    sed -i 's/port = 8080/port = 32145/' development.ini
    sed -i 's/username/wfuser_mc/' development.ini
    sed -i 's/dbname/wfuser_mc/' development.ini
    sed -i 's/pass@/a1s2d3f4@/' development.ini
    paster setup-app development.ini
    paster serve --daemon --reload development.ini

At this point, your MediaCore app is up and running and available via the site you created in step 4.
