What is value of the CNAME record to map mail.mydomain.com to ? webmail.webfaction.com ? Thats it ?

Yes, it's webmail.webfaction.com.

I tried this. mail.mydomain.com redirects to webmail.webfaction.com - it doesn't hide the webmail.webfaction.com. Is there a way to show mail.mydomain.com in the browser's address bar ?

When a DNS resolver realizes there is a cname it will restart the query with the value of the cname. Per the setup it would look up webmail.webfaction.com.

You would need to implement your own webmail system to retain the url mail.mydomain.com.
