I can't seem to find any reference to this behavior in the docs.

I have a "team" alias set up under a Webfaction-controlled domain, such that:

team@domain.com -->
                    bob@domain.com --> bob@gmail.com
                    bob@gmail.com (this is redundant, I was testing)
                    joe@joemail.com
                    bill@domain.com --> "bill" mailbox

If Bob sends team@domain.com a message from his GMail account, he receives no copies of this message. If Joe sends team@domain.com a message from his JoeMail account, Bob receives one copy of the message, not two.

Is this the expected behavior? (It's pretty cool if so, but would have saved me an hour last night when Bob was testing the new alias and wasn't receiving any of his own mail.)

There is indeed de-duplication happening here, but it does not happen on our end - it's a "feature" of Gmail, described when you click on the "an incoming message hasn't arrived" option in this Gmail troubleshooter:

Finally, if you're sending mail to a mailing list that you subscribe to, those messages will only appear in Sent Mail. This behavior also occurs when sending to an email address that automatically forwards mail back to your Gmail address. To test forwarding addresses or mailing lists, use a different email address to send your message.

This is also noted in our own email documentation: Automatically Forwarding Email

Hope that helps!

Bah, thanks-- I was reading the "Mailboxes and Addresses" section.
