I have a client who needs to run their store on Magento. They get 10-12k visitors a month. It is also well-known that Magento is very resource intensive.

Be honest--is WebFaction's hosting up to the task?

Do we need to add extra RAM to the account? Any recommendations or gotchas we should know? Thanks in advance!

Sure, we can handle Magento sites. We host plenty of them already, and we have an unofficial installer available here: WebFaction Magento Installer

You shouldn't need any extra RAM - since we serve PHP sites as CGI by default, all of your requests should be short-lived, so you won't have long-running processes for the Magento site.

Our general recommendations are:

  • Use whatever caching facilities you can to reduce your database activity
  • Use symlink apps to serve your static assets from the front-end Nginx server

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the quick response, seanf. The client already has a WebFaction account, so I think we'll use it to develop and test the site before we launch it. I'll try to remember to keep everyone posted on how it goes.
