I've run into some serious difficulty with getting Nginx to serve up Drupal 7 images processed with the ImageCache module which is now part of Drupal core. Any images that already exist on the server get served correctly by nginx, the problem is with creating new images based on the image styles. What normally happens is that when a resampled image doesn't exist at the imagecache url, Drupal tries to resize the original image, save the file and serve it up. However, the php script never gets executed, I just get a 404 error, since nginx isn't running the php script.

This comment suggests a solution that has been confirmed elsewhere on the web. The problem is, this solution requires access to the nginx.conf file and I can't determine an equivalent that works with WebFaction: https://drupal.org/node/110224#comment-772191

These are the instructions I followed to create the symlink to the drupal files folder; the CleanURL instructions were also followed: http://docs.webfaction.com/software/drupal.html#serving-uploads-faster

  • Is there an additional step not included on the Drupal documentation page?
  • Are there WebFaction-specific settings in the htaccess file or elsewhere that may have been missed?
  • Is the only option to create a custom nginx installation (a very undesirable solution)?
  • Is the documentation for Drupal up to date?
  • Or is there something entirely different that I'm missing?

In this instance it may not be appropriate to use just a symbolic link, so with using this module it may require some processing. Could I ask you to please log a ticket with us via your control panel so that we can more closely examine the situation? Wayne K. | WebFaction Support.
