Hi webfaction team,

When a new customer signed up webfaction service, he (she) will automatically have a sub domain name as username.webfactional.com for use. That is convenient. Thanks!

Now if this loyal customer pays SAME amount of money for another server, say, web123, this time he does not have a new sub domain name. That is inconvenient, and somewhat unfair.

Would you please setup username_123.webfactional.com in this scenario? Shouldn't be difficult for you.

"username.webfactional.com" need not be associated with any particular server on an account - it is associated with the account, and only one such subdomain can be created for an account. The "username" portion of the subdomain must be unique amongst all accounts.

However, the user is free to add subdomains to the account, for example, web123.username.webfactional.com. There is no limit to the number of subdomains one can add in this way.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you need anything else.

Dumb me! As a webfaction user for years, I never notice that user can define sub-sub domain name as whatever.yourname.webfactional.com (See http://docs.webfaction.com/user-guide/domains.html?highlight=subdomain#managing-dns-records-with-the-control-panel)!

One more question though. What is the TTL for such whatever.yourname.webfactional.com domains? Do we have to wait 48 hours? Is there any chances to have a 5 or 10 min TTL?

Adding a new sub to the WebFactional subdomain should only take 5-10 minutes. If it takes much longer than that, please ope a support ticket so we can resolve the issue for you.
