I have a client who wants to move their site hosting from Host Gator to a more stable solution. I recommended WebFaction after using them for the past year for all my development work. I setup their website on my account and updated their GoDaddy DNS registration to point to the WF DNS nameservers. We wanted to to do this so the site could function on WF servers for a while so they could become convinced of the WF system stability. Now that my client is convinced, their plan is to create their own account and move the site off of my account to their account. Is this as simple as deleting the domain, application, and website entries from the my account and creating them on their account? It seems that I shouldn't have to do anything with the DNS (since the WebFaction nameservers would be the same), but I'd like to confirm that before I move the site. asked 15 Aug '13, 13:59 daniell |
That's correct - if WebFaction manages the DNS for the domain, then we'll automatically update the NS records when you remove the domain from your account and re-create it on your client's account. I do recommend that you stage the application on the client's account, using their username.webfactional.com subdomain, to ensure that it's working properly before you start cutting everything over. Hope that helps! answered 15 Aug '13, 14:32 seanf I was definitely planning to stage the site before making the move. Thank your for the quick confirmation!
