I feel stupid asking, but even though I am able to change the permissions on drupal settings.php (sites/default/settings.php) and write to the file, I can not delete or overwrite it. I get "Permission denied". How can this be possible? I would need to be able to overwrite all files when extracting sites from packed files that I have made eg. in productions servers.

Forgot to tell that the drupal site was originally installed as webfaction webapp - I thought that would be easy way to setup everything (and then just overwrite the files).

The problem is that your user doesn't have write permission on sites/default.

You can fix it by executing the following command:

chmod u+w ~/webapps/name_of_app/sites/default

Hope that helps!

Ok, thank you. I knew it was "stupid user error" - I should have known that, but I have not been playing with linux so much lately..
