According to the WebFaction User Guide,

To create a mailing list, you will need to request it by creating a support ticket with the following information: • an email address for the mailing list itself, where incoming and outgoing mail will be sent and received, like project-discuss@example.com • another email address for the person responsible for administering the mailing list • optionally, a administration password (if unspecified, one will be generated for you).

What's not clear is what I need to do in preparation for sending in this ticket. I've created a subdomain for the mailing list, but

(1) do I need to create a website for this subdomain? (2) do I need to create MX records for the subdomain? (3) do I need to create the email address for the mailing list, or do I just enter into the ticket what I want the email address to be?

Hello,

Here are the answers to your questions:

  1. No.
  2. If you will be running the mailing list off an email address on a subdomain and the domain name is not using our DNS servers then yes, you will need to create MX entries for that subdomain.
  3. No - just specify the email address of the mailing list in a ticket to us, and we will handle the rest for you.

If you need further assistance then please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Sincerely,

Valentin I.
