WebFaction
Community site: login faq

I have a wordpress app (let's call it wordpress1) at test.mydomain.com in webfaction. I moved it to a new domain (www.newdomain.com) and set it up under "websites" so that it uses the wordpress app. This way I have this configuration: application: wordpress1 domain: www.newdomain.com website: www.newdomain.com using wordpress1

Now, I suspect I have to update the wordpress database records with the new url, is that correct? I do see the homepage appearing but without images, and when I try to login (www.newdomain.com/wp-login.php) it redirects me to the old url (test.mydomain.com). Thank you.

Hello,

The easiest way here is to manually update the site's URLs in the database, as per the official WordPress guide on moving WordPress at:

http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

specifically the "If you forget to change the locations" section, the second 1. You can manipulate your database via the phpMyAdmin interface.

Or just dump the database, replace all the old URLs with the new one and you should be set:

mysqldump DATABASE -u USERNAME -p > DATABASE.sql
sed -i 's/olddomain\.com/newdomain\.com/gI' DATABASE.sql
mysql -D DATABASE -u USERNAME -p < DATABASE.sql

Remember to replace DATABASE with the database name, USERNAME with your database user name, olddomain.com with your old domain name and newdomain.com with your new domain name.

If you have troubles performing these steps then please contact us via our ticketing system so we can assist further.

Sincerely,
