Alright, so I was trying to create a new subdomain for my website theknoxstudent.com which I could redirect to for mobile users. Something went terribly wrong and the site is currently returning a redirect loop error. Here is a list of how events have played out so far:

  • created m.theknoxstudent.com
  • under content, added wordpress application which is already in use by main site (theknoxstudent.com)
  • site stopped working properly (layout was all messed up and all links would go to m.theknoxstudent.com.
  • deleted m.theknoxstudent.com
  • started getting redirect loop
  • tried to fix that by making siteurl in database the same as in wp-config.php
  • started getting "Error establishing a connection"
  • changed wp password on webfaction and in wp-config.php
  • nothing changed
  • changed siteurl in wp-config and database to match the way it is set up in our staging site (http://www.theknoxstudent.com/ in the database and www.theknoxstudent.com in wp-config)
  • now once again getting the redirect loop. I'll provide the contents of my .htaccess in case that is the issue. I haven't messed with it yet.

Hello,

Each WordPress MultiUser installation stores information about each site, created in it, in the database table wp_blogs. The domain name of the site is stored in the domain field in the wp_blogs table.

When the DOMAIN_CURRENT_SITE wp-config.php setting, the siteurl or home or fileupload_url options in the wp_options table, or the domain field in the wp_blogs table do not match, you get such a redirect loop.

Synchronizing all these values corrects the problem.

Sincerely,

Valentin I.
