I'm trying to set this up following these instructions. I've created a custom application and I have a port number on which this app is listening. The instructions are then to visit "http://your-ip-address:8888" - I understand I should change the port number but don't I also need a dedicated IP address for this?

You do not need a Dedicated IP address for this. If you check the Open Ports box for the application. That will add a shared ports IP address to your account and open the port on the firewall for the shared ports IP address.

Then make sure your web site is using the shared ports IP address and you can access the port directly via the url. That will bypass the front end nginx server.

Hey thanks for the fast reply. I checked the box and have an open port now, say 1234. I copied btsync in to the webapps/appname folder. When I visit http://37.58.75.236:1234 I get a "Chrome could not connect to ..." error. Did I miss something, do I need to map a domain name to this application?

You should map a domain to it and then visit it via http://domain.com. Please make sure that your application is listening on the assigned port from the Control Panel as 1234 does not seem to be one that would be assigned.

The domain is mapped to a website and the website is using the server's secondary IP address. This website has an application which is the "btsync" app. This application is a custom app listening on a port (not 1234 but not sure I should post the actual port here?). The open port checkbox is checked. Now when I visit domain.com I get Webfaction's "Site not configured" page. When I add the port number I get a "could not connect to" error ... ?

Please open a support ticket so we can look directly at your set up.
