Community site: login faq

SO if we wanted to only use webfaction for an email and not have any website how do we do that? i.e. i don't want people to type in www.myemailonly,com site and see an error or that it's hosted at webfaction. Is this possible. ( Hope i explained myself clearly enough ) Email only. no visible sign of a website or url.

Hello,

Here is how to do that:

  1. point your domain name to us by setting its DNS servers to our ones (https://docs.webfaction.com/user-guide/domains.html) or use your domain registrar's ones and set the MX records for the domain name to our ones - see https://docs.webfaction.com/user-guide/domains.html#using-your-own-name-server for more information.
  2. add the domain name to your account via the Control Panel, the Domains/websites, Domains page
  3. if you used our DNS servers in 1. then click the domain name to edit it, choose External for 'Hosting' and set a bogus IP for the website, say 1.1.1.1, so that no pages will be opened. If you are using your domain registrar's DNS servers then delete any A records you might have (check with your domain registrar which ones are safe to delete, though).
  4. set up your mailboxes and email addresses

and you will be done.

If we can be of further assistance then please do not hesitate to contact us again.

Sincerely,

Valentin I.
