I am trying to install pip using easy_install-2.7 pip. I get the following error:

I have created ~/lib/python2.7 directory. Any idea what's causing this? I have also tried install other packages through easy_install-2.7 and I keep getting the same error.

Run mkdir -p $HOME/tmp

Add the following lines to $HOME/.bash_profiles

alias python=python2.7
export PYTHONPATH=$HOME/lib/python2.7
export TEMP=$HOME/tmp

Log out from and log in back to your ssh session OR run

source $HOME/.bash_profile

to refresh your session. Then install pip.

We are working on getting this fixed. In the meantime, you can install packages straight from the source as an alternative. Pip can be set up like this:

wget https://pypi.python.org/packages/source/p/pip/pip-1.5.4.tar.gz#md5=834b2904f92d46aaa333267fb1c922bb
tar xzvf pip-1.5.4.tar.gz
cd pip-1.5.4
python2.7 setup.py install
permanent link
