WebFaction
Community site: login faq

I just changed to WebFaction and have been happy with it so far. But now I'm having some problem that I cannot figure out by myself: I transferred a Wordpress side from my old host to webfaction. I created a webapp, connected it to a domain called test.myusername.webfactional.com and things work perfectly fine there. Now I would like to use this wordpress app for my own domain www.mydomain.org. I added it under "websites" as another domain to the same webapp. Now this works fine for the startpage, but when I click on any of the items in my menu I'm going to the old test.myusername.webfactional.com/menuitem . I have tried to change that by deleting the test.myusername.webfactional.com from the websites but then the site is just saying "not configured yet". I have no other idea what do to any more. Can anyone help?

Be sure that you have update the Wordpress site_url settings from the webfactional.com domain to your domain.

I didn't have this in my wp-config before and having it there didn't change anything...

Hello,

You need to update all your links now that you have changed the URL of the WordPress site. Unfortunately replacing the links mot à mot will not work as WordPress stores the length of the links in the database as well.

So you need to use either the 'Search and Replace' plugin:

http://wordpress.org/plugins/search-and-replace/

(see this tutorial on how to use it: http://www.htpcbeginner.com/safely-move-wordpress-blog/)

or Velvet Blues 'Update URLs' plugin:

http://www.velvetblues.com/web-development-blog/wordpress-plugin-update-urls/

Sincerely,

Valentin I.

for some strange reason when duplicating the wordpress side from the old to the new server all my relative links have been replaced with absolute links. This is why the site and links weren't working. Fixed now. thanks everyone for your help
