WebFaction
Community site: login faq

I have a functioning Django app with an extensive database at, say, mysite.com. For business reasons, I wanted to move everything to mybusiness.com. But, I also want to keep mysite.com and change the content.

When I copied all the files to mybusiness.com it created a perfect duplicate, but any change on one site causes a change on the other. Apparently I copied the bin and there are a also number of absolute urls.

Is there a simpler way to to move a site from one domain to another in the same webfaction account that separates the new from the old and retains all the internal linkages?

You should not need to move or copy anything - files are not associated with domains, but with applications on our side.

What you basically need to do is:

  1. Create a website record for mybusiness.com, with your existing Django application mounted at the root of this domain
  2. Edit your existing website record for mysite.com, and mount a different application there (you can start off with a blank Django app)
