WebFaction
Community site: login faq

Hi there,

Can you please let me know if WebFaction plans to implement Two Factor Authentication (TFA, 2FA) to their admin login process to make it more secure?

It seems strange that a service aimed at experienced developers does not offer such a, now, commonplace security measure.

2FA is on our internal TODO list, but we don't have a timeline for it at the moment.

I can appreciate that it's in the works, but this seems like an unacceptable answer to me. The potential risk to a customer if their panel is hacked is enormous. 2FA is essential. One can't expect it overnight, but not to even have a timeline in place is simply irresponsible.

Two factor would be a very nice addition to the controlpanel. Please move it to the top of the TODO list.

Thanks for the follow up. I've passed this additional feedback along to our development team (Every bit counts). We appreciate the enthusiasm of the requests for this important feature.

Is there an update for this request? 2.5 years is long enough for customers to wait. It literally takes minutes to build install Google Authenticator support. Please let me know if you are looking for customers to trial this.

Thanks for showing your interest in 2FA. We still don't have an ETA for this feature, but we'll make an announcement if that changes :)

I'm also looking for this. Basically allowing Google Login and disabling email/pass would suffice as they offer TFA.

I don't know since when, but it seems two factor authentication (which WebFaction calls two step login) is now possible for the Control Panel:
