My Wordpress app is running on php 5.2 and I would like to switch to a newer version of php. I have the binaries php53 php54 php55 installed. How can I use them?

You can do so by adding the following to the .htaccess files in the root of each application:

<FilesMatch \.php$>
    SetHandler php55-cgi
</FilesMatch>

I tried that but I get an error: "Error establishing a database connection"

Try resetting your Wordpress database user's password via our control panel - I think newer versions of PHP require a different password format stored in MySQL, and the reset will accomplish that.
