Hello,

Using my WebFaction web control panel, I created a new website called dnweb_net and pointed it to an app called dnweb_net which itself points to ~/webapps/dnweb_net/ where I placed some dummy html file. According to this doc https://docs.webfaction.com/user-guide/examples.html#creating-a-webfaction-site-in-4-minutes going to http://dnweb_net.danielnicoll.webfaction.com/dummy.html gets me a DNS error in Chrome : ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED Why?

Thanks, Dan

The domain can take some time to resolve in the DNS. In my tests it is resolving now. Looking at your account, it doesn't look like you've assigned the domain 'dnweb_net.danielnicoll.webfactional.com' to the website record that manages the app 'dnweb_net'. So you should add that domain to that record here: https://my.webfaction.com/websites

Hope this helps.

Thanks NickR. I should have explained that I tried to do exactly what you suggest but got this message: "Not a valid hostname" - see below: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8ksfyYSBJ8_TlZscENEa0xnMFE/view?usp=sharing

Okay, please try taking out the underscore in the domain name.

OK done - and as you guess it worked - this is one use case that needs to be fixed because webfaction purposely allows underscores in app and website names...

Thanks for the update, we'll note your concerns, glad it is working for you.
