I frequently develop on both my desktop and my server, and sometimes I may take a few minutes writing code, etc. on the desktop. I will then find that going back to my ssh session that it hung up on me :(

I use screen, but it's a bother having to type screen -rd every five minutes. I wonder if there's a way to increase the timeout? 30 minutes? An hour? Something like that.

There's nothing on the server side that's causing your sessions to hang up. You probably have some sort of network disruption between you and the server.

You can try running your SSH sessions with verbosity enabled, eg ssh -vvv you@webNNN.webfaction.com - the extra output might give you some insight into why your connections are failing.

If you're not able to identify and correct whatever is causing the problem, then you might look into using autossh to keep your connection going.
