This is less a question more me documenting something that is surprisingly difficult to discover even with a lot of research around the web. When using the procmail mailbox feature to filter incoming emails into nested IMAP sub-folders, the sub-folders path is delimited by . not /.

So

:0:
* some-test
.foo/bar/

should instead be

:0:
* some-test
.foo.bar/

God knows where all my emails were going when I used the former.

God knows where all my emails were going when I used the former.

They were going into a folder on the filesystem with a path like this:

/home/mailbox_name/Maildir/.foo/bar

If you open a support ticket, we can find the messages and move them into the right place for you.
