How would I configure superlance to send emails on supervisord failures based on the documentation? I'm assuming simply setting an email address would not be enough and that I need to specify my mail user and password. If so, how would I do that, with the sendmail_command?

sendmail is enabled on our servers, so you shouldn't need to specify any SMTP credentials. The example in the crashmail documentation should suffice, eg:

[eventlistener:crashmail]
command=crashmail -p program1 -p group1:program2 -m dev@example.com
events=PROCESS_STATE_EXITED
