First I love WebFaction! That said, I'm disappointed in how long it's taking to get complete integration (e.g.: a la Dreamhost). I have many clients on WebFaction (my host of choice) and it's a real pain to have to manually update their certs every 2 to 3 months.

I strongly encourage WebFaction to take this to the next level. Let's Encrypt appears to be the de facto solution for more modest web sites. Let's get with the program and make it easy for us!

So any concrete plans to improve in this area, or is it low on the list? Thank you!

We're hoping to have it rolled out by the end of this month.

We're getting close. I did emphasize that it was an estimate :)

I agree, I'm looking forward to native support for Let's Encrypt in the WebFaction control panel.

With that said, there are a couple of options floating around for automatic renewal:

  1. LetsEncrypt Webfaction: https://github.com/will-in-wi/letsencrypt-webfaction This one might be the most widely used, and automates the process of certificate issuance via a cron job which runs every 2 months. (Disclaimer: I wrote this)
  2. acme.sh: There are a couple of tutorials floating around to use acme.sh, which you could then put in your crontab as well. Here is one: https://cpbotha.net/2016/07/18/installing-free-lets-encrypt-ssl-certificates-on-webfaction-in-3-easy-steps/

A lot of discussion has happened on this question: https://community.webfaction.com/questions/18989/using-lets-encrypt-to-get-ssl-certificates

I ended up writing a simple python script which handles certificate renewal via the acme.sh --reloadcmd option. Instructions here: https://github.com/gregplaysguitar/acme-webfaction

I'm looking forward to this being obsolete!

I'm really keen on getting this too but when I asked the help desk yesterday, they said:

we don't have an ETA on that yet I'm afraid.

Thanks seanf. "No ETA" gave me the impression it could still be months away, possibly never :-/ If the ETA is the end of June, it's entirely understandable that could slip into July for unforeseen technical reasons—but less understandable if it slipped into 2018… :-P
