I use a few django modules that are most easily installed from github.

would sure be useful to have a git client without having to install entire git server.

Anyone got advice on an easy way to build a git client (shared plan)?

Hi,

Note: Using the installer from the panel and adding the path to the git binary to your .bashrc is another solution.

You can install Git from source, here are the commands to do that:

mkdir -p $HOME/bin $HOME/src $HOME/lib $HOME/include $HOME/share
cd $HOME/src

VER=1.7.3.2

wget -c "http://kernel.org/pub/software/scm/git/git-$VER.tar.gz"
tar -xzf git-$VER.tar.gz
cd git-$VER
./configure --prefix=$HOME
make && make install

echo 'PATH=$PATH:$HOME/bin' >> $HOME/.bashrc

rm -rf $HOME/src/git-$VER
rm -f $HOME/src/git-$VER.tar.gz

After you run those commands git will be installed.
