Is there any way to set up an SFTP User's default directory?

You can't change a SFTP user's actual HOME directory, but most SFTP clients will let you specify a default initial remote directory.

So, if you want your SFTP user to be in /home/you/webapps/whatever when they log in, then set that directory as the initial remote directory in the SFTP client.

No. That directory would always be /home/<username>

So, we can't create FTP accounts to automatically point to webapps directories, effectively creating separate FTP accounts for separate domains/websites?

Not right now, no.

This is a feature we do plan to add to our new control panel at some point. Although it might not be exactly like this.

Just came across this issue. The problem with asking clients to set initial directories etc is lack of knowledge and confidence. Theres also the problem of them seeing other applications and clients directories which feels unprofessional.

I understand the issues with running commands like usermod without having root permissions but maybe the whole process could be added to the current new user forms in https://my.webfaction.com/users ?
