Hi everyone,

Has anybody successfully installed jekyll yet on their Webfaction account? I tried to do gem install jekyll, but it says I need a version of RubyGems that is >= 1.3.7. I followed some instructions and managed to install this as ~/rg/bin/gem and then run jekyll, but the command was not found.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try this:

cd ~
mkdir ~/gems
export GEM_HOME=$HOME/gems
gem1.8.7ee install jekyll
gem1.8.7ee install RedCloth
export PATH=$HOME/gems/bin:$PATH

You should then be able to run jekyll. Hope that helps!

That's great, thanks. With those export lines, do I need to run these each time I want to run jekyll?

The variables do need to be set before you can run jekyll. If you don't want to set them manually every time, you can add the export commands to your ~/.bashrc or ~/.bash_profile, and they'll be set automatically each time you log in.
