I'm trying to read a simple static application to a subdomain. For example, I would like the application to point only to dev.mydomain.com. Do I simply add the new app under mydomain.com by selecting the app from the drop-down menu and inputing "/dev.mydomain.com" in URL path?

You should create a new 'website' record for the sub-domain and app. As opposed to editing the one in place.
