I want to install fat free crm (https://github.com/michaeldv/fat_free_crm).

  1. I installed a new Rails application (Rails 3.0.5 (nginx 0.8.54/Passenger 3.0.3/Ruby Enterprise Edition 1.8.7))
  2. configured nginx to point to the application folder fat_free_crm
  3. created a new subdomain and website using that application.

But now I get an internal server Error when i try to access the application

How can I investigate the status of the rails app and find out about the error?

Thanks

(I tried to do wget localhost:<port_of_the_rails_app> but also get the same 500)

I also checked the error ~/logs/user/error_fatfreecrm.log it's empty.

the access_fatfreecrm.log contains entries like this:

127.0.0.1 - - [29/Aug/2011:12:21:26 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 500 39648 "-" "Wget/1.11.4 Red Hat modified"

Your app's error log is located at ~/logs/user/error_<name of app>.log and should contain more information regarding the error.

More information about app and site logs is available in our documentation: Accessing Logs

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I should have mentioned that I checked the error ~/logs/user/error_fatfreecrm.log

It's empty.

the access_fatfreecrm.log contains this:

127.0.0.1 - - [29/Aug/2011:12:21:26 -0500] "GET / HTTP/1.0" 500 39648 "-" "Wget/1.11.4 Red Hat modified"

The 500.html error page is served from the rails application folder, so I probably have to investigate with fatfreecrm

That's odd. I guess the Rails app is swallowing the error. Maybe you could set some Passenger logging directives in your nginx.conf, then restart Nginx and see if you get more info in your logs.

Didn't help, all messages that where written with log level 3 where still indicating "ok". The rails messages didn't get through. I found the error however, i didn't rake with RAILS_ENV=production, so the db was not filled. Thx for help, should I accept the answer although we don't know the solution for the errors getting lost?

That's your call - if it were my question, I'd leave it open :)
