mod_wsgi comes with a script reloading mechanism that allows you to reload your wsgi application by touching your wsgi script file.

For example, with a standard webfaction Django setup, executing touch myproject.wsgi should cause your entire Django application to be reloaded.

Any yet, it doesn't work. This means that the entire server needs to be restarted instead, which results in a few seconds of downtime for the site.

The ability to touch the WSGI file to force a reload is only available if you're running mod_wsgi in daemon mode. This is the default for all our newest mod_wsgi-based applications, but not for older versions.

If you'd like to switch daemon mode, you can either copy the configuration from one of our newest installers or copy it directly from the official mod_wsgi documentation.
