Hi.

I want to host my friend site from my webfaction drupal7 application. I have one application witch host mulitiple sites from one drupal7 code base. All of theme are living inside ~/webaps/drupal7/sites. Everything works great if all subdirectories of sites/ are "real" directories.

If I create a symlink to subdirectories inside home directory of my friend where his site is living there is a problem. Every time I add/edit some files inside his directory his domain which points to drupal7 app does not work (it just said host not found) for about 5min. After that it starts to work again.

What can I do? I made such configuration because inside my home directory I have applications of my clients and I don`t what give him full access to my account.

Best regards pawel

It's strange that you would see "host not found" in relation to this issue, as that sounds more like a problem with DNS and not with files on the server. My recommendation is that you open a support ticket to let us know the specific domain and application that you're referring to so we can have a closer look at the problem.

If you do think the issue is somehow related to symlinking to locations in your friend's home directory, then I recommend that you try symlinking in the other direction - that is, set the ACLs inside of your home directory to grant access to whatever location, and then instruct your friend to create a symlink in his home directory to point to that location. Done correctly, it will not present a security risk and your friend will only be able to access the files to which you have granted access. We have instructions in our documentation here: Granting Access to Specific Users
