In my local development environment, I use pylibmc as the memcached binding for Django 1.3 to work with Memcached.

Below are the requirements for pylibmc:

  • libmemcached 0.32 or later (last test with 0.51)
  • zlib (required for compression support)
  • libsasl2 (required for authentication support)

I tried to install the first one listed - libmemcached but failed, because the installation requires root user privilege. Can someone please help me with setting up the above libraries + pylibmc on WebFaction? Thanks.

Did you try to build the source code with the '--prefix=$HOME' parameter? This should allow things that normally need root to build in user-space.

Also have you seen this documentation that outlines the recommended memecahed deployment?
