Maybe it's unusual question, but I need to convert SVG files to bitmap (gif/jpeg/png) at the server using imagemagick. Basically it works but I've got a problem.

Problem is related to text kerning. With all fonts except Georgia some of characters are too close to the others. I suppose I can use all the fonts which are installed in /usr/share/fonts/ (@web209).

Command I used for conversion is:

convert -density 200 kerning.svg kerning.gif

Please look at the screenshots:

  1. Original SVG file: http://www.e-kirin.com/tmp/kerning/kerning.svg
  2. File converted on my Linux box: http://www.e-kirin.com/tmp/kerning/kerning.gif
  3. File converted on WF web209: http://www.e-kirin.com/tmp/kerning/kerning_wf.gif

I tried -kerning option also but with no luck.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

You may want to try to build the latest version of ImageMagick from source and bring your fonts from your machine. Often problems like this come from different versions of the software. We only install the official CentOS packages for most things, ImageMagick and system fonts being among these.

Just to confirm, installation using instructions on the link above passed flawlessly. Now imagemagick converts SVG to bitmap without kerning problems. No additional font installation/configuration is needed. Thanks once again!

you should not install or configure when you are converting SVG to bitmap image c# . a lot of image processing tool can convert in bulk at a very fast speed.
