When trying to create a Redmine 1.3.0 application, calling it ecovilso_redmine, I get a Python traceback in the control panel:

Error: Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/var/tmp/api_system.59605", line 137, in ?
method(server, session_id, account, username, app_name, autostart, extra_info)

return self.__send(self.__name, args)

return self._parse_response(h.getfile(), sock)
File "/usr/local/lib/python2.4/xmlrpclib.py", line 1286, in _parse_response

File "/usr/local/lib/python2.4/xmlrpclib.py", line 744, in close
raise Fault(**self._stack[0])
xmlrpclib.Fault: <Fault 1: 'name: This name is already taken'>

At this point a webapp has been created, but it only contains a "Hello world" Ruby example app, no Rails, no Redmine.

The code tries to create a MySQL database with an already taken db name, that unfortunately is not shown in the traceback. I have two dbs named teknico_ecovilso and teknico_ecovilso_static respectively. Maybe the code is trying to create a new db called teknico_ecovilso or teknico_ecovilso_ (16 chars limit on MySQL db names)?

As an aside, I will run Redmine on top of a PostgreSQL database. I suppose I'll be able to create it after the Redmine install, and reconfigure Redmine accordingly.

Thanks for any insight.

For future reference, here's the quick answer from support, and on a Sunday no less: :-)

"You are correct - the automatic installer is trying to create a database called teknico_ecovilso, which already exists. To work around this error, please name your app something that doesn't start with ecovilso, for example, just redmine, or redmine_ecovilso."

You are correct - the error occurs because the installer is trying to create a database with the same name as one of your existing databases.

To work around it, you can either create your app with a different name, or you can install Redmine manually. Our old manual installation procedure is available at web.archive.org: Installing Redmine

You'll probably want to modify that procedure, eg to use PostgreSQL instead of MySQL, and to use a more-recent version of Redmine.

Hope that helps!
