I've tried to install and run socky server. The example at https://github.com/socky/socky-server-ruby uses Thin, which I have also tried to do.

Does anyone know the best way to configure Thin with nginx on Webfaction?

The nginx server can host any HTTP server that can have its port specified with a custom application. The custom application will assign you a port to listen on. You would than start your app on that port,

thin start -p 12345

Where '12345' is the port assigned.
