I tried installing teambox, and used references from this question.

Steps I followed:

  • create Ruby app from panel
  • SSH to my account
  • exported PATH, GEMS_HOME, RUBYLIB as in documentation Ruby on Rails
  • downloaded code for teambox (from git repository)
  • and finally run bundle install

After some downloading and installing, bundle tries to install pg (0.9.0) with native extension and fails with error:

Installing pg (0.9.0) with native extensions /usr/local/ruby1.8.7ee/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/rubygems/installer.rb:552:in `build_extensions': ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension. (Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError)

    /usr/local/ruby1.8.7ee/bin/ruby extconf.rb

checking for pg_config... no checking for libpq-fe.h... no Can't find the 'libpq-fe.h header extconf.rb failed Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of necessary libraries and/or headers. Check the mkmf.log file for more details. You may need configuration options.

What am I doing wrong?

Try installing the pg gem before running bundle. Here's how:

$ cd $HOME/webapps/your-rails-app
$ export PATH=$PWD/bin:$PATH
$ export GEM_HOME=$PWD/gems
$ export RUBYLIB=$PWD/lib
$ gem install pg --version 0.9.0 -- --with-pg-config=/usr/pgsql-9.1/bin/pg_config

Then cd into teambox's code and run the bundle install command.

Thank you very much.

I could swear that I tried that. Probably missed the --version flag.
