I'm trying to set .htaccess/.htpasswd to require a password to my site per the instructions here, but I must have something wrong because I've restarted Apache and no luck.

First off, I already had a "Symbolic link to static/cgi/php53 app" for this site, so I assumed I could use that with this. This is confusing though because I was going to create this for another site, at the latest static option was "Static/CGI/PHP-5.4", so maybe I'm confusing something here. I didn't using Static/CGI/PHP-5.4 because I didn't see a way to link it to my web site, because the "extra info" field says "not applicable", so I'm trying this with the existing symbolic link.

Instructions say to put this in the .htaccess file:

AuthUserFile /home/<your_username>/webapps/<webapp_name>/.htpasswd
AuthName EnterPassword
AuthType Basic
require valid-user

# Hide files starting with a dot (.htaccess and .htpasswd in particular)
<Files .*>
order allow,deny
deny from all
</Files>

I assume <webapp_name> is the static app, not my website app, because otherwise the paths for .htpasswd and .htaccess wouldn't match up per the instructions to create those files (in the static app directory).

Is there something I'm missing along the way here? Thanks!

Yes, everything seems correct. Can you tell us the error you are getting?

Hi neeravk, I'm not getting an error, my site is just allowing access without popping up the auth dialog. Should I open a ticket?

Yes open a ticket so that we can take a look at your configuration.
