WebFaction
Community site: login faq

I'm trying to push my new and empty django project from webfaction server to my github repository. Repository is already created. Im cd'ing myself into the project, set up a local repo, but when im trying to push, I'm asked for a username and password. Neither my webfaction or github credentials work there. What do I put there? Shouldn't the keys are deployed took care of that? Do I have to set up a git user somehow?

Pushing to github from WebFaction should be almost identical to pushing from your local machine. If you're using SSH keys for this, you just need to ensure that the appropriate public key is entered in Github's interface.

In order for us to help debug this, we'll need you to open a ticket and allow us to try pushing into your repository for you, so that we can reproduce the problem and determine the solution. At that point, we can update this post with the solution for anyone who has similar trouble in the future.

Alright, seems to be working, false alarm. I had to do a git pull first, and then git commit to make git push work :P. But there's one thing I don't understand - why git is asking me for my github credentials when pushing if I added the deploy key?

This probably means that your key setup isn't working - please double-check if you've entered the correct key, saved it under the correct file name, etc. If you can't figure out the reason why it's not working, feel free to open a ticket so we can take a look.
