Hi everyone, I'm working on a Django (Pinax) website and need to setup a Mercurial repository. I've followed the guide here to the best of my ability. When I try to clone the repo though, it keeps asking for a password and rejecting the one I enter.

Here are some details of my setup:

  • My static app serving Hg lives in /home/my_webfaction_user_name/webapps/hgserver.
  • The static mapp serving Hg has the domain files.my_webfaction_user_name.webfactional.com
  • My Django site and the repository I want to clone lives in /home/my_webfaction_user_name/webapps/pinax_server/projects/mysite.
  • I've setup a user hg_user with a password according to the guide.

I suspect the error lies within the command I'm trying to use to clone. According to the guide, it should be:

     hg clone ssh://username@username.webfactional.com/path/to/repo

I translated this to:

     hg clone ssh://hg_user@files.my_webfaction_user_name.webfactional.com/ ...
     /home/my_webfaction_user_name/webapps/hgserver

It asks for a password but rejects the one I assigned to hg_user. I've also tried to a few other variations of the hg clone command above, including at the end adding the name of my repository, i.e.:

     hg clone ssh://hg_user@files.my_webfaction_user_name.webfactional.com/ ...
     /home/my_webfaction_user_name/webapps/hgserver mysite

What could the problem be? Thanks in advance

/Erik

Hi,

When you are cloning via SSH, you need to use an SSH user - either your main Webfaction user, or an additional SSH user. If you want to use the users defined in .htpasswd as in our docs, you need to clone via http / https.

If you continue having problems configuring / using Hg, please open a ticket so we can take a look at it for you.
