I'm trying to execute a perl script and I added this following line to a .htaccess file:

AddHandler cgi-script .cgi .pl

Unfortunately I get an error 500 with this error message:

/home/xxxx/webapps/htdocs/.htaccess: Illegal option AddHandler

What can I do?

Try this one,

AddHandler perl-script .pl
permanent link

Thank you Johns but that didn't do the trick. The pl script is just displayed and not executed in this case. Is mod_perl installed on webfaction servers?

EDIT: ok i figured out what was the issue and it was my fault. The line in the htaccess was correct but I'm on Windows and the perl script wasn't properly recognized.

I used the command dos2unix to convert my Win file into an unix one.
