The other day, after a botched WordPress plugin upgrade(process died for no obvious reason), some files in the plugin's directory ended up assigned to the root user. This then made it impossible to re-attempt the upgrade because the directory already existed, etc.

I was able to move the directory to get it out of the way and complete the upgrade, but now I'm obviously stuck with files I don't want in a place I don't want them. I figure support probably does need to get involved(I know we don't have sudo), but I was curious if I was missing something else I might try. I vaguely remember this happening once before with something I hadn't really started on so I just deleted the entire app via control panel, but that's a bit scorched earth for an established project.

No, if you have root-owned files for some reason, you'll need to contact support for assistance, and to determine how they ended up root-owned to begin with. Sorry!

Yeah, I figured. Just wanted to avoid if possible since it's such a silly bit of administrivia. Thanks.
